"Need To Invest In Infrastructure To Sustain Growth"
10/2/2010
India needs heavy investments to mend its creaking infrastructure to help sustain economic growth, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a statement.
"The performance of the Indian economy in the current global economic scenario indicates its basic resilience. We need to keep this momentum going by infusing and sustaining large investments in infrastructure," Mukherjee said in the statement, ahead of a business meeting.
He also said the Indian economy is likely to grow 7.75% this fiscal year through March.
India's economy grew 7.9% in the July-September period and the government estimates a 7.2% expansion for the full fiscal year.
