10/2/2010
A consortium comprising of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Global Talent Track (GTT) and Young Indians (Yi) launched the Employment Series programme in the city to help rural youth get access to quality oriented training aimed to enhance employability for the youth.
The program will run on blended learning format ensuring latest concepts and inputs are made available to students. It is being piloted under CII's Mission on India@75.
The employability programs will be conducted using blended learning methodology which can run pan India and has low dependency on faculty would include classroom training, e-learning supported by a facilitator in the classroom, interactive virtual classroom through WebEx and workbook sessions to facilitate the learning.
The programme would be executed at the training centres in Pune and later will be expanded to other places in Maharashtra and rest of India. Pune and Kolhapur have been chosen as the first prototype centre where GTT will provide the know how, content and its methodology for ensuring 'quality with scale.
GTT will also make available its well researched multimedia content that can be accessed online, supported by workbooks and classroom partnering with CISCO.
On an average, Asia recounts for 54 per cent of unemployable youth population and India constitutes half of its percentage. The percentage of population amongst the youth that is single skilled is 96 per cent in the case of Korea, 28 per cent in the case of Mexico and 22 per cent in the case of Botswana. Indias skill base stands at just over five per cent amongst the youth and that is a cause for concern.
For India to achieve global leadership by 2022, when India turns 75, it is critical to create a 500 million globally employable workforce.
